Mens Squash Team sponsored by
Just Rackets played superbly to win the Division 1 South Group on 18-19
November 2006 putting them through to the promotion play-offs on 10-11 March
2007 for a chance to reach the Premier Division for the first time in the
County's history.

The weekend didn't start too well
with the County Champion Marc Woolhead complaining of sciatica in his back
and was rested to prevent further injury.
The first match of the weekend was against local rivals and 5 time
Inter-County Champions Essex. Boosted by the return of World
Number 86 Chris Ryder at number 1 string, Herts got off to a flier, Chris
beat former British Junior Open Champion Iain Higgins 9-4 9-7 9-2.
Neil Waller did likewise at number 5 string beating his younger opponent 9-7
9-0 9-4.
Meanwhile current British Under 17 Champion Adrian Waller was struggling
against World Number 168 Neil Hitchens and lost 9-4 9-3 9-6.
Keith Timms playing at number 4 sealed victory for Herts against his Essex
opponent, after surprisingly losing the first game 9-5 Keith asserted his
authority to take the next 3 games comfortably to put Herts 3-1 up.
Finally Adam Fuller played Paul Allen at number 2. Paul put on a masterclass
of attacking squash whilst Adam wisely saved himself for the afternoon match
vs host county Norfolk.

In the afternoon Herts moved up a
gear and despatched Norfolk 5-0.
Neil Waller laboured to win the first game 10-8 but then eased through to
win the next two games 9-1 9-3.
Keith Timms did the same by winning the second game 10-8 after being 8-4
down.
It was now Chris Ryder's turn to complain of back pain but still managed to
show his class by winning at number 1 string by using his excellent
attacking shots 9-4 9-5 9-7.
Adrian Waller secured his first win of the weekend winning 3-2 against Ian
Cox. Adrian battled back from 2-1 down beating away the demons to take the
last 2 games 9-0 9-5.
Adam Fuller clinched the 5-0 victory for Herts dropping a mere 7 points in
the process.
This meant that Herts were through unless we capitulated against SE Wales on
Sunday morning.
The celebrations on Saturday evening was a night when nicknames were born
and of legendary tales, much activity was undertaken, too excessive to
report but nevertheless it was a very good team bonding experience.
First on court on Sunday morning
were the Waller brothers.
Adrian 'Billie Jean' Waller faced Lewys Hurst who had been a top Welsh
Junior player.
Adrian started 'like a beauty queen from a movie scene but he wasn't the
one' losing the first game 9-7.
In the second game I told Adrian to 'be careful what you do and don't go
breaking young girls hearts' but he still wasn't the one losing it 9-7.
For the third game Adrian was 'advised to always think twice', this was all
he needed winning the next 3 games 9-0 9-2 9-1 to win the match 3-2 for
Herts Woo!
Meanwhile Neil 'The Joker' Waller was entertaining the crowd on the other
court, 'some people called him a space cowboy, some people called him the
gangster of love', but for a young man to know all the words to Tiffany's 'I
think we're alone now!! ' he played superbly well to win 9-5 9-7 9-0.
Unfortunately Chris Ryder's back injury became worse and was walking like
'Montgomery Burns' all night and all morning. Not even the sultry dance
moves from his girlfriend and her friend was able to remove his stiffness
and he did the team proud against Wales' Jethro Binns going down 9-8 9-4
9-2.
It was left to Keith 'Snake Hips' Timms to win the match for Herts. Keith
displayed wondrous hip action on the dance floor, in fact he didn't have to
be anywhere near the dance floor! With his 'Stick with me Jay!' words of
encouragement Keith showed a maturity beyond his years taking out his
elderly opponent in fine fashion! Oh! and he won his match 3-0!!!
Adam 'Wind Breaker' Fuller wasted no time, having seen Herts win the match
he went about his task with vigour and such enthusiasm it left the team
gasping for more. His shot selection was spot on but despite his best
efforts went down 3-0.
This meant that we had come top of
the group remaining unbeaten during the weekend.
Special thanks to Gary Spindler from
Just Rackets for helping sponsor the team, all of the team and
non-playing Vice-Captain Marc '007' Woolhead. Marc was likened by Adrian to
look (facially!) like the new James Bond! This was something that Adrian
regretted saying immediately but was a title that Marc gleefully accepted.
Well done Boys!
See you in March 2007.
