The report from the inter counties on the weekend of the 4-5 May are as follows....

This year Herts were seeded to reach the final as the number 2 seeds, but their first match on the
Saturday morning was a re-match of last years first round against Cheshire, Herts comfortably dispatched them 5-0 as the team of Adrian Waller, Chris Ryder, Adam Fuller, Charlie Johnson , Geoff Taylor all won 3-0!

Saturday afternoon saw the semi final against Sussex , the only change to the team was Keith Timms stepping in at 5, unfortunately he couldn't convert some match balls and ended up losing 3-2. Fuller at no. 3 lost  3-0 to the experienced Tim Garner, not a good start for Herts but another rising talent, Charlie Johnson, playing a very tricky opponent ran out a 3-1 winner coming from 1 behind . Adrian at no. 1 took 23 mins to win 3-0. With the match now all square at 2-2  enter Chris Ryder, with some awesome retrieving and mobility he ended victorious against Tim Vail 3-1! Match to Herts and now in the final against a good Surrey side who were the favourites!

Sunday morning and on court first was Timms and Fuller, with both matches going to 5, unfortunalty  both Timms and Fuller lost out in the 5th 11-8 and 11-9 respectively, a bad referee call for Fuller at a crucial stage! Now with Herts 2-0 down, it was the inform Johnson playing the experienced Neil Frankland , having lost the first but finding his way back with some great shots and retrieving like a pro, Neil looking even more defeated, Charlie winning 3-1, great match to pull one back for Herts!!

With Waller up next playing his old pal Joe Lee, having taken the first game, and giving Joe the run around, he then lost the second, with a few errors creeping in just clipping the tin on his backhand volley, this gave his opponent the win Surrey needed to retain their title. Ryder then went on to play Charles Sharpes in a dead rubber match playing best of 3, Ryder winning 2-0!
Final result
Surrey 3 Herts 2!!

Some very good, exciting, quality squash was played over the weekend. This was all possible due to some very kind sponsors so a massive thank you to:

Alistair Ambrose
Peter Newman
Eamonn Price
Brian Timms

Thanks also to the travelling  supporters who were there through the whole weekend.

A good effort by all the players maybe next year will be Herts year!
