This weekend saw Herts U15 team take on SE Wales, West Wales and Hampshire in stage 2 of the England Squash Inter-County competition. We fielded a full team on the county rankings and expected to do well. Our first match was against West Wales with Daniel Sciberras and John Cussens first on court. While John produced an impressive performance to take his match 3-0, Daniel rapidly found the going tough and slipped to 2-0 down. He then produced a characteristic fight back to balance the match at 2-all only to collapse in the final game. Impressive performances by both Oliver Dixon and Rhys Thomas restored the Herts lead and it was left to Adrian to close the victory with a controlled 3-0 win leaving us with a 4-1 win.

After a break, including a swim in the club pool, we were rearing to take on SE Wales and hopes were running high. Unfortunately our boys were rapidly brought back down to earth with both John and Daniel losing against convincingly superior opposition. Rhys followed the trend and it was left to Oliver and Adrian to restore honour in the final 2 ties.

After a very pleasant evening, the Hampshire side was in our "next victim" list. We beat this county emphatically in the stage 1 competition and expected to do well. Unfortunately, our plans did not coincide with our results.

Oliver was on court first and totally demolished his opponent. Daniel fought well but ultimately lost to the Hampshire player. After both Rhys and John lost their focus and their matches, it was left to Adrian to restore the balance with an emphatic 3-0 victory.

After the final results were calculated, we came second and therefore move up to the Premier division. Well done all in a very enjoyable weekend!
