Herts Girls Squash Newsletter

HERTS GIRLS SQUASH Newsletter……August 2007

We hope you have had a great Summer and are ready for the new season (and the new school year!). It was difficult to match the triumph of the U-13 team in becoming National County Champions in the 2005-6 season, but all 3 of our county teams (U-17,U-14 and U-11) won their East Anglian League competitions last season. The U-15 and U-13 England squash inter-county teams both had some success and the four Girls’ Sunday squash mornings at Cannons and Bishops Stortford were well attended with 73 girls involved in one or more of the sessions. Below are details of last season as well as key events in the new season. If you have any questions please call Julian Craxton (Girls County Organiser) on 07711 748557.

COUNTY MATCHES
England Squash Inter-county U-15
Stage 1 (Cannons, 15 Oct): with Anna Bradly unavailable the team of 5 started strongly with a 5-0 win over Suffolk but lost out 1-4 to a very strong Surrey team. Fortunately Rachael Foster’s 3/0 victory and useful points from Brogan Lane and Natasha Drake enabled the girls to collect enough points to qualify for the next stage.
Stage 2 (Lee-on-Solent, 28 Jan): revenge was gained with a 3-2 win over Surrey but the team lost 2-3 against Hampshire and 1-4 against Kent. Anna played superbly to win all 3 of her ties and there were also wins for Brogan and Natasha. With all squad members still u-15 next season, we are optimistic that the team could do well in the 2007-8 campaign!
SQUAD: Jemma Ockwell (Radlett), Rachael Foster (Cannons), Brogan Lane (B Stortford), Anna Bradly (Cannons), Jessica Foster (Cannons), Natasha Drake (B Stortford) and reserve Jasmine Eilfield (Harpenden)

Stage 2 (B Stortford, 4 Feb): the girls won all 3 matches to win the 4-county event. A narrow 2-1 victory over Surrey II was followed by wins over Essex (2-1) and Kent (3-0).
