HERTS GIRLS SQUASH
Newsletter……January 2008
We hope you have had a great Christmas and are
ready for the second half of the season. The U-15 and U-13 England squash
inter-county teams have had their Stage 1 matches some success and the
three Girls’ Sunday squash mornings at Cannons and Bishops Stortford have
seen a large number of girls involved in one or more of the sessions.
Below are details of the season so far as well as key events coming up in
the rest of the season. If you have any questions please call Julian
Craxton (Girls County Organiser) on 07711 748557.

COUNTY MATCHES
England Squash Inter-county U-15
Stage 1 ..Oct 14th (St George’s, Surrey): the team came second overall,
just one point behind hosts Surrey. Against Surrey we lost 2-3 with wins
for number 1 Jemma Ockwell and third string Rachael Foster but the other
three matches resulted in narrow defeats. Fortunately the team bounced
back to defeat both Sussex (5-0) and Kent (5-0) to secure enough points to
proceed through to Stage 2 in late January and a chance to qualify for the
national finals in March.
Team: Jemma Ockwell (Radlett), Brogan Lane (B Stortford), Rachael Foster
(Cannons), Anna Bradly (Cannons), Jessica Foster (Cannons), Natasha Drake
(B Stortford).
Stage 2..(Cannons) 27th January 11am start v Essex, Bucks and Surrey
England Squash Inter-county U-13
Stage 1..Nov 4th (Cannons): with number 1 Jessica Foster out injured,
Herts fielded a very young and inexperienced team, losing 0-3 to Surrey
and 1-2 against Essex. Nine year old Grace Gear won 3-0 at 2nd string
against Essex and gave her Surrey opponent a tough game. With Essex
bringing a reserve it was a good opportunity to give 6 girls county
experience.
Team: Hannah Daly (Broxbourne), Grace Gear (Gosling), Annabelle Gay
(Harpenden), Sarah Brown (Radlett), Amy Flood (Radlett) and Bethan Price
(Gosling).
Stage 2..( probably Witney) 3rd February 10.30am start v Sussex and
Oxfordshire.
East Anglian Competition (Herts, Cambs, Suffolk, Norfolk)
After last year’s victory in all 3 age groups, it has proved difficult to
arrange the dates for this season. At present we are hoping to have an
inter-county match or graded tournament at Bishops Stortford on Feb 10th,
involving all ages (but not the top few girls)…more details to follow!!
