Squash U17 Boys Final
Philip Waller
v Rhys Thomas
The under 17 Boys event had both an A and B tournament due to the number
of entries received.
The final was a contest between the number 1 seed – Philip Waller (Hazelwoods)
– and the number 3 seed – Rhys Thomas (Gosling).
In the semi finals Philip came up against Will Blower from the Bishop
Stortford Club and won 3 – 0 (9/6, 9/0, 9/2) having struggled in the first
game to find his form with Will going 6 points up before Philip made a
spirited come back. This took the wind out of the sails of Will with the
second and third games being more comfortable for Philip.
The other Semi final was a battle between Rhys and the number 2 seed Ryan
Mays. They are both from the Gosling club and are very aware of each
others game. As you might imagine it was a long game with some exhausting
rallies but despite losing the first Rhys upset the rankings winning 3 -1
(6/9, 9/3, 9/6, 9/3). Due to this long game Ryan was unable to play the
3rd/4th playoff meaning Will Blower took the third place.
The final was an exciting game to watch with Rhys retrieving most of the
pressure that Philip applied. The steady game played by Rhys was rewarded
when he took second game and in the fourth he had opportunities to bring
the game to 2-2.
Philip run out the final winner with a 3-1 victory winning 9/6, 8/10, 9/1,
9/7.
