Summer League 2008
Message Sent By Philip Jenkins.

Hi All,
Sorry for the delay in getting this mail out to you with regards to the summer squash leagues.
First of all I would like to say thank you to all of the teams that have  played in the winter leagues this season, I hope that it has been enjoyable for you and that the new web site has kept the interest up.
I am in the process of chasing down the last of the results so that we can wrap up the scoring. (Scott, I know that you are dying to find out taht =
Berko have won Div 1).

If you have not already submitted your results please do so asap. I will=
be chasing all of this over the coming weekend, I know that there are few =
discrepancies to sort out!

With regards to a cup competition. Unfortunately due to unforseen circim=
stances (swapping jobs twice in a year is a real pain) on my pa=
rt I have not had much time available to put in the effort to sorting this =
out,and am not in a position to do so. I fear that it is a little late for =
this to get off the ground now, but welcome anyone putting their hand up to=
attempt to give up some effort and organise it.
As you will find out if you look at the league website I have arranged f=
or the summer leagues to go on-line also, I have had the club and player in=
formation from the winter transferred across, now it is over to you gu=
ys to tell me that you wish to enter a team for the summer.
What I need to know fo the summer is that you want to captain a team, th=
e division you believe you should be in (if different from last year then justification why), plus a deposit of =C2=A330 into the herts county bank ac=
count.

Please send me a mail to
hertssquash@btinternet.com with you team entry.
Please can you get your entries to me by 21st April so that I can get all of the administration done.

The exact start date for the summer season will be decided once I get confirmation of the the teams and divisions. Here is the link to last year's summer results
 www.Herts-squash.org.uk/league/league_summer_results_20aug2007.htm

Priority will be given to the teams in the divisions already and their end of season standings.
Once I have finalised the winter season results I will send out a further e-mail.
regards,
Phil Jenkins

LEAGUE ISSUES

1. MISSING MATCH DATE
The first issue I hear is that the match date is not being entered. If you forget, you will get "INCONSISTENCIES".

Fixed 28.10.2007
The software now defaults the match date onto the match card. Please let us know if there are further problems.

2. There are a few instances where the 2nd team also enters the players and scores. If you do this by copying, all is ok. If you disagree with the previous data, the differences show as "INCONSISTENCIES". Why not contact the other captain, come to a conclusion, then send a joint email to hertssquash@btinternet.com explaining what you both want to do.

Winter League 2007-8 ENTRY FORM & Match Card

Message Sent By Philip Jenkins.

As some of you are aware by now, I am the new Hertfordshire Squash Men's league organizer. It is coming up to that time of year again when you have to decide “can I be bothered to enter a team this year”. Well hopefully the answer to the question is a resounding yes.

Attached you will find an entry form for your team, please can you fill this in and reply back to this e-mail address. All I really need is your commitment to run a team, an email address that you use, along with your money, £50 per team this year.

The committee has decided to increase the costs from £30 to £50 per team due to several factors, the main one being that we are trying to get more advanced league software up and running and it costs money. All entries must be returned by Thursday 30th August along with payment. The planned start date for the league is the week beginning 1st October.

Also, there is a requirement of affiliation to England Squash. Please ensure that your clubs/players are affiliated to England Squash. Non affiliated clubs/players will not be permitted to play in any of the leagues.

CHANGES

We are trying to introduce a couple of changes to the way the league is run that I would like to share with you, they are league software and score cards.

We are in the process of buying new software to run the leagues with, follow the link to see what it will be like
http://www.discoverysoftware.co.uk/NineNil.htm . It should make life easier for both you and me to keep information up to date.

As a team captain, you will have an account set up on the web site to enable you to add your player details. It will be the captain’s responsibility to make sure that player details are entered correctly before the start of the season. I will be able to assist with the administration if you are having difficulties, and as this is something new I am sure that there will be a few hiccups along the way, but please bear with us as the outcome should make things easier for all.

Having a valid e-mail address for each of your players makes things much easier for everyone, so if you can get details from your players that would be a great help.

Standard Team orders apply and anyone playing 3 times for a team commits them to that team. Please let me know if you need a full listing of the rules.

Also, in placing all league information on-line I would like to try to do away with the score cards as much as possible. (I have two young children and a manic dog and all I can envisage with the cards being delivered through my door everyday is that they get scribbled on or torn up). I think that the score cards are a useful way to remember the information on the night, but after that the information should be transferred to the website by the captains. Here is copy of a score card for you to use, I have also included it as an attachment.

SUNDAY LEAGUE

Also I am interested to know if any of you would like to run a Sunday League of perhaps 10 teams. My thoughts are:

· 2/3 players per team,
· Games handicapped depending up winter league division and structured on a division by division basis.
· Scoring would be American up to 15, point per shot, best of 5 games.
· Fewer restrictions than the standard winter leagues.
· Any member of the club would be able to play, provided that they played in club order.
· Games to be played am or pm depending upon preference, say 10am or 4pm.
· No food commitments.

It would require a commitment from captain and club.

A 2 man team would take about 90 mins, a 3 man team about 2 hours. My preference would be for a 2 man team with games / points per game to decide the winner in the event of a 1:1. £20 entry per team if the league is a 2 man team, £30 for 3 man.

Your thoughts please.

To make communication easier and consistent, please use this reply address
hertssquash@btinternet.com rather than any other e-mail address that you have for me.
If you know of anyone who is interested in running a team, please forward this mail to them.

Regards
Philip Jenkins

Ladies Squash League email: Nicky Wase & Fiona McClure

Here are the Ladies Team WINTER League FINAL results on 3rd April 2007

At this point in the league, the teams have been split with the top 4 teams going on to play each other in Division one and the bottom four in Division 2. It was a close run thing between NG, Haileybury and Allenburys to see which two would stay up. It all came down to the final game on 15th Jan.

Congratulations to Bishop Stortford and Allenburys respectively for their wins. There is still much debate about the format for next years league. I would value comments from Tring, Gosling and Cannons 2 as I have not spoken to you directly about this years format. How would Division two teams feel about entering two 3 man teams rather than one 5 man team?

Many Thanks, Fiona McClure

Club Points
Division 1
B/Stort  304
Cannons 1 246
HaileyBury 239
NG 212
Division 2

  • Before opening the system to selected captains, the League insists that Team Captains take note that TEAMS MUST PLAY IN NOMINATED ORDER (see under CLUBS). The system will reject results where teams switch their order. The League says that team order may only be changed, on application, at the half-way stage at Xmas, and then only if agreed.
