HERTS COUNTY SRA MINUTES
At Next Generation
on Wednesday 1st November 2006
Action
Present: Dominic Webster, Isobel Smith, Sally Ann Webster, Jason Foster,
Fiona McLure Paul Drakes, Phil Jenkins and Mark Blake.
Apologies: Derek Thorpe, Nicky Wase
Firstly, the committee welcomed Phil Jenkins and Mark Blake onto the
Committee.
Treasurer’s Report
Paul reported that overall we had made a loss of £32 last year. The £1,000
sponsorship money from RAMS has now been paid into the account. Sally Ann
handed Paul £1110 in cheques for the men’s winter league entry fees. There
are still some outstanding. Mark Blake paid £60 on behalf of Broxbourne
squash Club. Paul to issue a receipt. There are also still a few clubs that
have not affiliated, Royston and R3 being two. Paul will chase up R3. Sally
Ann said that we ought to chase up clubs that haven’t been completely honest
about the number of squash players they have when affiliating with England
Squash. If they put the true number this would result in Herts SRA getting
more money. Dominic will send out a letter to each club asking them to check
the number of players at the club and to explain that the county will
benefit in the long run. This will be aimed at next year as it is probably
too late for this season.
We will be receiving a cheque from England Squash for £1,507.48 for the
first half of the affiliation money. (post meeting note, this has now been
received)
Jason confirmed that RAMS do not wish to sponsor the Herts Closed this year
and therefore we must all be on the look out for sponsors! Phil suggested
asking a few individuals to each sponsor just £250, thus hopefully making it
up to £1000 is we manage to get four.
£1,500 has been paid to the Junior Committee and we will continue to do so
until such time when funds are depleted.
County matches are coming up and after some discussion it was decided that
we should stick to the basic rules laid down by Dean. Paul would prefer if
captains paid for accommodation, travel, meals etc and then passed him the
receipts and he would transfer money straight into their bank account.
Herts Closed 19th 20th & 21st January 2007
Jason has already put the Entry Form on the website. As stated above there
is no sponsorship at the moment so we need to ask around.
We need to increase number of entries from last year and everyone will have
a supply of entry forms to hand out to people at matches. If necessary get
people to fill them in there and then and collect the money off them. Simply
email Jason with names etc. We are really aiming for 100 entries.
Broxbourne should be o.k. to host the tournament again, Mark will double
check with the club and will also ask contacts regarding sponsorship. Phil
suggested having people setting up stalls during the tournament, such as
sports wear, rackets etc. and either paying say £200 to be there or taking a
percentage of their takings. Or just ask several people to sponsor a small
amount thus
Need to generate some posters to send out to clubs and push the tournament
as much as possible. It will be difficult fitting in all the matches over a
weekend, but we will cross that bridge when it comes.
Mens Leagues
On line leagues are now up and running. Sally Ann still has the problem of
players playing out of order or teams playing people who have not been
registered. After some discussion it was felt that for the first few weeks
we would allow teams a bit of leeway but Sally Ann will send out an email to
all captains in general terms saying, online leagues now running, please
check website and if that if a team had players that weren’t registered
please do so letting Sally Ann know where they fit into the ranking list for
that team. Also, after some discussion it was felt that the rules needed to
be changed to allow a player from a lower team to play more than twice for a
higher team. It was decided to extend the number of times to three in a
complete season.
We need to update the rules and Mark has been given the job of going through
the old rules and amending for the committee’s comments. These will then be
discussed at the next meeting and will then be presented at the next AGM.
Having received positive and negative feedback from the County Cup, an
invitation will sent out asking teams if they wish to be included in the cup
this year, giving teams the chance not to play.
Ladies League
The new system is working well, having combined divisions 1 and 2. All eight
are playing in the first half, then for the second half they will be split
into top four and bottom four for the remainder of the season.
Website
The website was mentioned in brief, we would still like to update the look
and this will be discussed with Derek at the next meeting.
County Teams
Men’s 1st team will be playing in Norwich. Jason confirmed that Chris Ryder
is will to play for the team but will want payment for the weekend. This was
agreed, however we would want some promise that he would play in the second
weekend also. Jason noted that the team is a very young one, which bodes
well for the future and proves what a good job the Junior Committee are
doing with the juniors.
Ladies team are playing in Kent. Ladies vets team are hosting on Sunday 26th
November.
Next Meeting will be Thursday 14th December 2006 at Next Generation
