Welcome to the latest RLTSC Newsletter

Thank you for your patience while the bar area was being decorated and the
positive feedback.
Please note the office will be closed from Monday 20th March and re-open on
Monday 27th March. I'm getting time off for good behaviour! The General
Committee will deal with any matters of urgency. Their contact details can
be found on the General Notices board in the club foyer.
Temporary Swipe Cards - Could members who have been informed that their
personalised swipe card is now ready, please collect them and return their
temporary card.
Booking of Squash Courts. - Confirmation that I am available 11am - 1pm
Monday to Friday to take telephone bookings for squash courts. You must be
in credit with the office to book courts this way.
Visitors Fees - A reminder that any member may bring a guest to the club.
The member is responsible for signing their guest in and purchasing stamps
to the value of the guest fee (currently £2.50, from 1 May £5) from the
machine and sticking them alongside the guest's details in the Visitors
Book. Any guest may only visit the club a maximum of 6 times in any
membership year.
SOCIAL COMMITTEE
It's not too late to get your tickets for our Irish Night on Saturday 18th
March. Buy them from behind the bar or the office at £12.50 per person. We
will be having music, food and lots of Guiness! The publicity states 'Wear
Green to get Lucky!'. We need final numbers by Wednesday 15th.
SQUASH SECTION
NEWS
JUNIORS
As well as the regular Sunday afternoon sessions, many of the juniors have
been involved in tournaments and Herts county events.
Congratulations go to the following:
1. Jemma Ockwell is currently number 3 in England (U-13 age group) and plays
1 in the Herts U-13 Girls' team which has made it through to the National
finals for the first time. Jemma and her teammates face Warwicks, SE Wales
and Yorkshire at Club Kingswood in Essex on the weekend of May 6th and 7th.
2. Jack Fowler, Angus Gillams and William Ruston make up 60% of the Herts
U-13 Boys' side. After winning the regional Stage 1, they finished 3rd
against the very strong opposition of Surrey and Kent, but managed to see
off Essex.
3. All those who have participated in any of the 15 graded tournaments at
Radlett over the last three years. At each event a raffle has been held at
the end with the proceeds going to the Mencap Lemarie Children's Centre at
nearby Garston. On Feb 17th Alison Mills, from Mencap, was presented with a
cheque (in the shape of a squash racket!) for £1040.
4. Matt Smith, Gavin Lamb, Tom Rosenkranz, Joe Ruston, Vishal Chohan, Thomas
Jackson, George Dearlove and James Marsden who were the tournament winners
at the end of the February half-term squash week, which attracted 47
players for some or all of the days.
5. The five Radlett girls who took part in the Girls' Squash morning at
Cannons (St Albans) on Feb 12th.The morning's coaching and mini-tournament
attracted 25 girls from 7 clubs in the county. Berri Sandford and Hannah
Tilley came 3rd and 6th in the C grade and Radlett players filled the top 3
spots in the beginners' D section. Sarah Tilley was 3rd, Lucy Shadwell 2nd
and Abigail Sandford was 1st. The next Girls' morning is on Sun April 9th.
DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
LADIES SQUASH. There are 5 sessions left this season: March 19th,
April 2nd
(graded tournament with prizes!), April 30th, May 14th and May 28th (end of
season graded tournament).The sessions are from 7.45-9.15 pm with all
standards welcome and further details can be obtained from organiser Julian
Craxton on 07711 748557.

TENNIS SECTION
NEWS
Update on current rankings for Radlett junior Ben Davis. This month we see
him ranked 7th in the country and 113th in Europe. He reached the
semi-final of the Ariel Grand Prix Masters at Gosling, where he lost to the
UK number 1, Jack Carpenter 6-3, 6-3. He also reached the semi-final of the
ETA Grade 3 Tournament held in Denmark, where he had to retire due to
illness.
Radlett junior Charlotte Connon has recently represented Hertfordshire in
the 16 Counties event and has been to Southend to play in the County Cup.
Over the half term holiday she was in Denmark in her first ITF event where
she made the semi finals of the Qualifying draw. She has now got the bug
and is hoping to go on a trip to Spain at Easter for an ITF event. We wish
her every success.
Tennis coach Paul French has retained his British over 50's National title;
he also reached the semi-finals of the World's in 2005.
Welcome to new Tennis Coaches Paul McArdle and Mark Beccles (Bedfordshire
Mens Number 1). We look forward to seeing them on court.
DATES FOR YOUR DIARY:
Courts 4,5 and 6 week beginning 13th March. These courts will be out of
action for approx.2 weeks, due to renewal work. During this time organised
groups, which generate income for the club, will have priority. We ask for
your patience and understanding if there are no available courts when you
want to play during this time.
Ladies American Tournament 28th March, 9:30am. The Entry sheet is on the
tennis noticeboard in the foyer, closing date Friday 24th March.
Thursday Coffee Morning, 9.30am up and running again. Cost £7 members, £10
non-members. |
