Dear Member,
Welcome to the 6th newsletter of the 2005/6 season.
Lots to tell you about this week so keep scrolling !
First, an invitation from Jeanette Taylor and Catherine Kilhams.
Quiz Supper :
Back by popular demand, the easiest quiz in town!
Who are the brainiest? Tennis or Squash players???
Find out on Saturday 19 November at 7.45pm at the club quiz supper.
Tickets are £10 including supper (vegetarian option available - please let
us know when you book the tickets).
Tickets available from the office or behind the bar.
As before, 8 people maximum per team.
Tennis Courts :
Please be aware that courts 3 and 4 will be out of use for the morning and
possibly early afternoon on Monday 17th October.
We are having some of the trees cut back on the riverbank side of the courts
to clear the floodlight that is being blocked.
There will be a bit of noise I'm afraid but we will try to keep any
disruption to a minimum.
Advance Notice of Carriageway Resurfacing Works :
'Hertfordshire Highways' has issued an advance notice of resurfacing works
in Radlett from the 30mph signs into Radlett northwards to 45metres past the
junction with Shenley Hill.
Phase 1 (between 30mph signs and Loom Lane) and phase 2 (between Loom Lane
and Theobald Street), will start on Monday 24th October 2005 between 7am and
7pm for two and a half weeks. ( Yes, we've all heard that one before !)
Cobden Hill will be closed between 30mph signs and Theobald Street.
Access to businesses and residents will be via a ONE WAY SYSTEM TRAVELLING
SOUTHBOUND.
Phase 3 (between Theobald Street and Shenley Hill, 7am to 7pm) and phase 4
(between Shenley Hill and northwards for 75 metres, 7pm to 7am), will start
on Saturday 29th October 2005.
Main road will be closed to passing traffic. Phase 1 and 2 will be open for
local access. Theobald Street and Shenley Hill to be shut alternately.
The letter I received from them at my home address is on the notice board in
the foyer.
More information will be forthcoming in the local press.
As a result access to the club for vehicles may be difficult and a bit
frustrating for a couple of weeks.
The person in charge of this operation is Silency Musingarabwi who can be
contacted on 01707 356248 and
silency.musingarabwi@hertshighways.org.uk if
you have any questions.
Junior Committee :
This Friday(14th October) there will be an exhibition match taking place at
7pm. An opportunity for our Junior members to see some good junior tennis
which can provide inspiration for their own games.
Junior Tennis Social is now happily thriving, most weeks we have over 50
children taking part. Thank you to all parents who have helped with this,
next term's rota will be sent out in the next week.
To allow a fair system of play at social we must now restrict court times to
the following:
5pm-7pm School Years 5 and below. (Age 9 and under)
7pm-9pm School Years 6 and over. ( Age 10 and over )
Children and parents are welcome at the club for the whole session (5pm-9pm,
bar opens 6pm). Older children who arrive earlier than 7pm will be expected
to help with the younger children. Younger children who stay at the club
after 7pm must have an adult present who will be responsible for their
behaviour. These children must stay in the clubhouse and their play must
not disturb any members using the club at this time.
Ball games in the hall are not permitted unless supervised by a tennis
coach.
A note on the £1 charge we are implementing on 21st October. A number of
parents have questioned why we are charging for this when they have already
paid membership. The membership fee paid by all members of the club is
spent on the upkeep of the club. Any session, adults or juniors, which is
coach led incurs an extra charge, we do have to pay them! Until recently
there was not the need for the social to be structured, but with so many
children now attending it is necessary for us to have our Head Coach Gee
organising the children. We hope you agree that the session is now much
better structured.
Shuna Wickham & Jeanette Taylor.
Club House and Grounds :
Could I ask all members to be on the lookout for anything that needs
repairing or replacing in and around the club house and grounds.
If you find anything out of order please leave a note in the maintenance
book on the shelf in the foyer.
If I am unable to fix it I'll find someone who can as soon as possible.
Anyone who has any specialist knowledge of how to fix something that is
amiss please let me know in the office and I'll put you in my little black
book!
It would be of great benefit to the club if we could call upon our members
instead of having to rely on contractors ( £££ ! ) for things that we can do
ourselves.
Bar :
The RLTSC bar is open for business as follows :
Monday - 7.30pm to 10.30pm
Tuesday - 7.30pm to 10.30pm
Wednesday - 7.30pm to 10.30pm

Saturday - 3.00pm to 7.00pm (or later if volunteers are available !)
Sunday - 8.30pm to 10.30pm (on social squash nights only, dates on notice
board)

available for our younger members.
John Taylor is the committee member in charge of the bar with Tim Wadeson
assisting him.
John and Tim do this voluntarily and we thank them for their time and
commitment both running the bar and re-stocking when required.
Kitchen :
A big 'Thank you' to the following ladies :
Gill Hall
Fay Fradgley
Margaret Skelding
Sheila Guard
They did a tremendous job cleaning the kitchen on Monday 10th October.
Its shining like its never shone before !
Don't forget.......its 50 push ups on court 1 for anyone who fails to keep
it that way :) !
Margaret has also been busy this week planting pansies in the pots on the
patio. They look terrific and we all appreciate your hard work.
Thank you.
